I'm right with you on this one, OP. 2.5 years out. Just stop over-thinking and just do it. Since you're going out, have a few shots to get yourself to in the mood. Just start talking to random girls. IMO, baby steps. Just talk for now and see where it goes, next time you go out try and push it further in the conversation.

Another thing, I'm great at contributing to conversations, and if seen by anyone they'd say I'm very sociable. What I have the worst time doing is starting a conversation. Like, what to say, I don't want to be so random where she'll turn her head to her friend, all "wide eyed." if that makes any sense.
