Totally wrong approach.

Ask for and set the date within 2-3 messages online, THEN after you have a time / date set, get her # so you can coordinate.

Then don't text her until the date, can ping her to confirm or change up plans.

"Spring it on her?" You met on a fucking dating website, that is the express purpose of the site.

If you are thinking this way, you are blowing waaaay too many opportunities online.

It took me a while to understand online dating but I found success in mentioning very early that you would like to get together to do ______ . Then, ask for a number. Then text it and if you can call, or just make plans over text. Some girls are scared so if they need more time, ask them if they do. Or just move on.

Don't overthink it. Keep texting to a minimum. It should be used mainly for setting up dates and occasionally building rapport. Don't text back and forth a bunch, it kills the intrigue.

depends on the site but if it is a traditional dating site, almost none, just to propose and confirm a date.

As little as possible. Enough to build a little rapport and set up a date/time/location for a physical meetup. Every text should have a purpose.

In my opinion. I try to ask for a date as soon as I have enough information and talking points that we wont end up in total silence after about an hour.

All depends on the girl. General rule however, is to get a meet as soon as possible. But you also have to remember that some girls are more cautious then others. I'd work on getting the girl's number first before asking her out. Also when you do ask her out make sure it's someplace public and during the daytime.
