I've had good luck with English girls because they say American men are more open, forward and engaging.

Ask how their day went, take an interest in them. Sounds obvious but I've heard English girls say that they love American men because British guys tend to get overly drunk, talk to their "mates" and paw the women when it's time to go home while American guys work harder for the attention.

I've heard it from 3 different English girls!

The most important thing to do is read up on English current events, sports teams etc. Learn who the Prime Minister is and what are his initiatives. Making friends is VERY easy when you travel if you take an effort to learn about the place you are visiting.

Being a foreigner as a european in America is an advantage and vice versa in 90% of the cases I'd say.

The accent is subjective. It will put you in a minority which puts you in demand for those interested in said minority.

The culture is not subjective. As an American, you are likely more open than what they are used to and any connecting you do will likely feel more natural than said norm. That is your silver bullet.

no way, American accent no. You may have other advantages. American men are generally taller than Europeans and height is definitely a plus.
