So this question arises when today I ordered my coffee from a girl who I use to know from school. She asked me what I do now (work etc. studying, whatever).

How do I answer that without either: a) sounding boring or b) giving her a fucking life story? Is there an in between!? I went with option a, just told her that I'm working, and then when I asked her she said the same thing. Obviously our lives are deeper than that, but if I told her what I really do with myself apart from just 'working', I could have said that I recently went vegetarian/vegan, I'm trying to start campaigning against animal rights and world hunger, I'm trying to become a professional athlete, and I'm hopefully going to New York in two months (I live in Australia).

Now if I said that, I'd just sound like I'm trying to show off or give her some life story about finding myself that's meant to impress her.

This stuff is fine to share with someone that I'm on a first date with, but when I'm just answering a simple question? probably not. But I really don't like the other option: 'working'. I like to express myself everywhere I go.. I do far more with my life than work live a slave, as I'm sure she does to.

Now in no means was I trying to get with this girl, this question applies to just catching up with people you know, or answering strangers. What's a good reply to questions like: "What do you do now?". or: "Do you work or go to uni or?". Maybe its best just to leave it and be mysterious and short about it rather than give a piece of my heart to someone who may or may not care about the response.

Thanks for reading seddit :)
