I asked a girl out and she replied with a polite "oh I have a boyfriend" and I admit I didn't handle lit gracefully, I mumbled something awkwardly and left. Now I'm terrified to ask anyone out in fear of this happening again, my question then is what's something fairly smooth I can say to get out of these awkward situations?
