Not exactly re-inventing the wheel, but its a bit more original than just Hi or Hey. You dont want to waste your time crafting a really detailed first message when she may not even respond. So this lets you know she is at least interested enough to start a conversation and then you can take it from there.

I think on Online dating you should to a genuine opener. Look at her interests, bound to be somethimg you can use. Just be funny. Saying hi or hello is monotone they get that all day. Be diferent. ;)

Create a general clever opening message that can be used with anyone, but at the same time seems personalized, "I'll bet you were a tomboy when you were little." Imply a question or actually ask a question, don't leave it up to her to come up with a topic of conversation, eryone hates that.
