It happened to me yesterday a-goddamn-gain. I'm talking to a woman in a one-on-one social situation and she tells me she's in "an open relationship".

Now this is a clear buying signal, right? "I'm married but I'm completely allowed to fuck men other than my husband, and I do. Hey, I just noticed, you are a man other than my husband. What a huge coincidence!"

And this is the third goddamn time this has happened and I bobble it. I just have no idea what to do next. We spend our time talking about polyamory, instead of practicing it. In each case, I ended up Facebook Friends with the woman. I don't want to be Facebook Friends with her; I want to be Oral Sex Friends with her.

The problem is, that I know the regular dance of familiarity-relationship-sex. When she puts it all out there like that, I haven't a clue what to do next.

You are missing my point. I don't exist to cater to her goals any more than she exists to cater to mine. To the extent we can cooperate to reach our goals, that's great; if not, what I need to do is figure out how to reach mine.

Women are pretty hardwired to want to make connections.

Well, not this one. She listed her goals as pleasure and novelty, not connection. "Hit it and quit it."

Which should have been great, should have been fine.

The problem is, all of my experience has been with women who wanted to make connections. I enjoy making that connection and I'm good at it, although it isn't necessarily my first goal. This woman skipped steps 1 through 9 and left me at a total loss. I felt like a lion that spent all his life chasing gazelles and now I am locked in a butcher-shop and cannot figure out how to get the plastic off the meat (you should excuse the simile).
