How do you decide on an opener?

Don't trip about the opener. You could say the right thing at the right time, but it could go horribly wrong. Or you could say the wrong thing at the wrong time, but it could go extremely well. I have had each happen to me. Focus instead on creating a fun and playful vibe after the opener. Like Lasvegasfun's opener, have a default opener just in case you can't think of anything. I've always like this break down of openers (from Adam Lyons): 1. Functional: it's a functional question where you need help like "Where is Starbucks?" or "What is there to do around here?" 2. Compliment: Comment on their look or something about them that you like. The best compliments are those are they active had to work on not things they have no control over. For example, complimenting their fashion vs. complimenting their eyes. 3. Situational/Environment: Anything in the environment or situation that you can be in the moment and comment on. someone falls in front of both of you "Ouch, do you think that hurt?" or it looks like they are part of a bachelorette party "Let me guess, you're one of the bridesmaids?"

Approach with confidence and you can ask anything. That's all you really need.

I think all the answers below are true. The most awkward open in the world is easily overcome if you can carry a conversation.

What I do, is I either find something I want to tell her. Or something I want to ask her.

Both of these are outcome independent. I don't want her to listen. I don't want her to answer. I just want to execute my actions, what she does with them is her business.

The importance of this mindset is that if you don't talk to her, you've failed yourself. You'll feel that pang, you set a goal, you had a mission and you failed it. If she blows you out, (rare) you succeeded in your mission. Your mission wasn't to get a number, it wasn't to have a conversation -- something you have no control of. Keeping that perspective will hopefully help motivate you, and protect you on the occasion you get rejected.

Rejection is rarely about you. Especially when you're rejected by people who don't know you.

The last three girls I opened.

"So! What are the chances you have the best hat in the whole art gallery?"

"Hey, excuse me... I have no idea what it says on your bag. Should I know?"

"I'm going to be obnoxious and stop you while you're working out. Your gate is really unique, is that unique to you, or is there some bro science going down."

I go high energy, warm open stance, I close space as time goes on. I always make sure to capture names about 2 minutes in and do light touching when I do it.
