If you make her laugh he will give you her number or say "I have a boyfriend." Just say "it's been fun chatting to you let's catch up some time." Or more advanced but way better "you know you seem like a cool girl... what are you doing tonight?" then invite her for a drink, grab the number. Send your name straight away and if she doesn't confirm the date, send her a text an hour or two before saying you'll be fifteen late.

Try setting up a date instead of going for the #. You then have to get the # for logistics. It helps with flaking.

And stop framing her as a "stranger."

The number of times men have asked for my phone # is probably higher than the population of India. I like my phone # and don't want to give it out to strangers. For me, it's really out dated and unimpressive, to the point of rolling my eyes when I get asked the question.

What works, is informing the girl what nights she can find you at the location you both met. For example, if you met her at the rock climbing place, you can tell the girl that you usually rock climb on Sundays and Wednesdays night, and that you'll hope to see her there.

I don't mind if they add me on Facebook, because I can easily block them if things escalate in bad ways. You'll be able to send her private messages which are the equivalent of texting. If things go well, you can ask for her number later on.

Conversation is supposed to be superficial when you first meet someone and are getting to know them. Work on your conversation skills and listening skills. Once the conversation is going well, do time constraint/number close.
