I usually get tested every couple of partners, unprotected sex or not.

But it doesn't cost me anything and maybe not everyone has the same health plan.

Herpes can take several months to show symptoms so best to get checked.

The earlier you diagnose HIV, the more effective the treatments are. You can nearly reverse infection nowadays, but the damage it can due to you by the time you show actual symptoms, can not be healed in most cases.

That's just one of them. Basically, some thing can lie dormant for a long time. If it sneaks up on you, you will rationalize how "this couldn't be an std, because I haven't slept with anyone for a long time." And then it gets really bad.

You need to get tested. Treat it like a cancer screening. It could all be for nothing, but if you catch it early, you might not die.

It's not a bad idea, but you're probably in the clear. The vast majority of STI's would show symptoms after a couple weeks of being infected. One exception is HPV which might not be symptomatic for months (if ever) but you've probably already got that if you've had unprotected sex with more than a couple women.

STI testing is a good idea in theory, but it's not very reliable, at least not in my experience. A couple years ago, a girl I was dating wanted us to both get tested before having unprotected sex (she was on the pill). We got tested, both came back clean, then started having sex. BAM, a couple days later, I had gonorrhea. I went to get tested again to confirm the doctor's diagnosis, and even though I was pissing pus, the test still came back negative.

The moral is, wrap that shit up regardless of what tests say about you or your partner.

Yes. If you have insurance in the US, most will cover an annual wellness Chechnya and that is included. Do it, at minimum, once a year.

Whenever you have unprotected sex with anyone you don't know well, then I believe the recommendation is always going to be yes.
