I can be a really funny guy, but sometimes I think I try too hard and can be off putting. Can you be charismatic and attractive without using humor often?

Here's a reality check:

Funny is not sexy. When women say they want someone who makes them laugh, it does not mean that they want a joker or a comedian... it means they want someone who challenges them, making them feel that awkward feeling that can only be dismissed with laughter.

For example, if she says "I think this waiter isn't very nice", you look at her dead serious and say, "you know, you're right. should I lure him into the parking lot and kill him?"

It's not a punchline.... it's an obvious absurdity delivered as if it was realistic. The only way for her to defuse that scenario is by laughing at the ridiculousness of it.

I would consider myself rather the same. Don't worry about it, you're going to want to attract someone who likes your sense of humour anyway, that will make for a great relationship. However, on approaches and on nights out and stuff, I would just recommend thinking about what you say before you say it. If you still think it's funny, say it. It's not your fault someone doesn't share your sense of humour or like a joke. Just don't let it be awkward if they don't, it really is no big deal.

Needing the validation that comes with people laughing at your jokes is needy. It is or will be apparent.

You're probably using humor as a filler for actual content in conversation, which gets stale and uninteresting fast. Try not make any jokes with anyone for a day and focus on having interesting conversations.
