It's also okay to body shame men in the media. Relevant example: Bob Duncan from Good Luck Charlie. Practically every episode there's multiple jokes from his family, coworkers, or strangers about him being bald or fat. And it's not like it's accidental comedy, they purposely put the laugh track there

It's to the point that a major plot point in one episode is a character seeing how long they can go without making fun of his weight. Meanwhile the main character's best friend, who is very clearly obese and moreso than the father, has absolutely no comments or jokes on her weight made.

I remember explaining to a misandrist who thought men in media were always portrayed to be better than women how in the lion king, Nala bragged about how simba would be a "big dumb lion cause boys are always stupid"(something along those lines) and how she'd be a smart, strong lioness.

A decent amount of tropes in fiction pretty much beat the hell outta men especially among the common ones.

Like yeah I definitely agree that things like women being damsels in distress is overplayed but damm we guys have been told by media we are stupid to a degree it's actually a nursery rhyme.

Since I was young, I have watched serials and as a teen, sitcoms such as friends, modern family etc. However, I have almost always seen these TV shows portray men as these lusty creatures whose only purpose in life is having sex. There was this one scene in modern family when two boys were dating girls who they didn't like. One of them was called dumb and started speaking out against the objectification of himself. The girl in return, said that they'll make out with them at their house.

3: Lust. Obviously men don't care about what happens in the real world, we get to make out and all is fun and well. And this is 100% not the case.

For the love of god I freaking hate the super horny male character trope usually used in the media. Where men are portrayed as sex craze dogs. I surprisingly hate this male character type more than the dumb male character trope.

In the Anime Naruto. The fanbase thinks a character called Sasuke is gay. And they think Sasuke is gay for the dumbest reasons too. Because he doesn't have nose bleeds when seeing hot female characters. Like your typical super horny male character in Animes.

And also it doesn't help that the character Sasuke is portrayed as being an attractive man that gets a lot of female attention. But he is also an asshole too. So people are like how dear male characters be attractive. And not throw themselves at any woman they see. And the funny thing is, that these fan bases usually tend to lean more progressive as a whole for the most part. But still have this rigid or caveman view on gender and sexuality, especially when it comes to male characters.

And also if Sasuke was a female character. Nobody would be questioning a female character's sexual orientation, for not being interested any male character that show interest in her. Because women aren't expected to show a lot of interest in men. If they do show interest in men, they are portrayed as being desperate in the media. This is why the character Sakura was hated by fans.

Hence why men are always the ones approaching and pursing. Matter of fact some people would view the female version of Sasuke as empowering. Because she doesn't need no man and she can reject men left and right. While if the female character did the opposite she would be call a pick me by fans. While male characters are considered gay or even misogynistic for doing the same thing as the empowered ice queen female character.

And this also translates to real life really well too. Where men are called gay, the f slur, or get their sexuality questioned for rejecting women or turning down women. While women are viewed as girl bosses for rejecting men in some spaces. Because women don't have time for these male losers.

So attractive male characters being standoffish or unfriendly is viewed as bad thing by the general audience. While it's considered cute, sassy, and empowering when female characters are portrayed the same way.

I notice male characters who are portrayed as Sasuke in the media personality wise. Tend to be viewed as closeted gay men, misogynistic men, too edgy, or incels by the general audience. This is something I find interesting. There should definitely be a post about this lol.

Modern family has a range of portrayals of positive masculinity.

It has Jay as a more traditional male role, phil as a more modern figure who cares for his kids, Mitch and Cam too.

The females are a range of types too. Hayley is sex Obsessed, alex is a feminist etc

Not just TV, this misandry is also present everywhere in movies and any other media you can think of, how many times have you watched scenes where a woman slaps a man in the face and it's supposed to be funny? This video is a short compilation of men being abused by women in movies, and it could perfectly be hours long.

Another big example of misandry in media that I think is the clearest of all is the cartoon Johnny Bravo, for those who don't know it was basically about a guy who was constantly rejected and being beaten by women after trying to pick them up, and that was a show for kids, just imagine the outrage if it was the other way around.
