It's common for old school indian parents to reject their kids dating any race, or caste, outside of their own. But what matters is how she feels about it, not her parents.

I empathize with you as someone who has been told this a few times over the years. Whoever is the bigot, this is probably not something you can fix. Maybe she simply sees you as a friend. You don't say that she's shown any romantic or just plain sexual interest in you. She might just like hanging out with you and doesn't see you guys as being anything more than what you currently are. If you enjoy being around her and can be content with the way you guys interact, more than likely this will be as good as it gets. I understand your being pissed off because it's a bitter pill to swallow, but some people are just fucked up in ways you can't do anything about.

A lot of traditional cultures are like that. She could also just be LJBFing you with some cute cultural excuse as well. A lot of younger Indians are open to inter-racial / inter-cultural dating behind their parents' back. I just think she's not into you.

Indian person here. This is a culture thing for the most part, with some other things sprinkled in between. Most Indians don't like to date blacks, plain and simple. This is coming from the caste system that they grew up with. Also there's a huge cultural difference in the way both people look at things. There's lots of reasons why, but its a rule of thumb. If you're black and trying to date an Indian person, it'll most likely not work or you have a huge uphill battle to fight.

Her parents are also partially responsible. While parenting techniques vary, parents usually rule over their children with a iron fist when it comes to relationships. If they won't even let someone date a white person, they're definitely not going to let their daughter date a black person. This is mainly parental authority and something a Indian child doesn't break away from, even if they're old and living on their own; if they do, they're an outcast and are typically living like a regular person. You'll know when you run into these types. Less traditional, dressing and talking a certain way, acting much less Indian.

Lastly, she won't date in secret because of the last paragraph. I know someone who was threatened to be forcefully dumped onto a roadside in rural Tennessee just in their underwear or naked if "they wanted to live on their own with white people," and they were 19 with a cellphone and driver's license. So with consequences like that, do you want to go date behind your parents' back?

Now it could be that her parents are not that bad and she's using it as an excuse as well, but as we have no info on her parents, it's up to speculation.

In her culture it matters less than the opinion of her parents. It's hard to grasp for us, but it's key to understand that it isn't about you.
