Hands down one of the worst things you can text to a girl you are interested in. If it turns into a good conversation, it only did because she is already interested in you.

I always was of the opinion that the "how's it going?" text is better for friends than women you're trying to get out on a date.

My first thought is that using any particular line is going to be stale, out of touch, and tone deaf.

With friends, they'll answer and supply additional information with something like that.

Someone you met recently? It will fizzle.

I have no idea what to message a girl sometimes to lead up to asking her out if I have nothing relevant to say.

How are you meeting these girls?

You find relevant things to say by paying attention before you approach or while you're talking to them.

If you truly pay attention, you'll have material to work with, whether it's something about the current situation or something about them or what they've said.

Not texting when you don't have anything to say is actually a good thing. Texting is a tool, to set up real life meetings, not a way to build attraction. The problem with using text or social media to build attraction, is she becomes accustomed to a version of you she can easily control, so why then would she want a version of you she can't, (you in real life)

"How's it going" is the sort of thing you send someone who is already a friend. If that's relationship you have then fine. On the other hand, as an introduction/hoping to create a connection it is like cold approaching someone on the street - there is an initial disconnect created by the person being aware that that is not what you are really asking and being suspicious of your motives.

Best advice:- what is something that connects you to this person? Find that and you have a starting point for a conversation. Might be boring initially but you can build on that into "Hey btw I was going off to do [fun activity], maybe you'd like to come along?" or something more direct "Was wondering maybe if you'd like to go hang out?"
