Flirting for women can be tough but I would say just the general more generic type B S of making sure to pay attention when he's around and try to just make good conversation and be playful and flirty.

But if this is an office setting may be saying something about oh I like to usually go to some bar or place for drinks and try to take it out of the office and maybe things will just go from there.

But I can say personally if you were direct depending on the situation that could go either way

You want to see if the guy is exhibiting a pattern that indicates attraction. So what you need to do is push it just a tiny little bit, not exactly flirting just small things that you would not exactly do. It might be that you smile at him from across the room and give him a little bit of eye contact and see if he gives it back to you. You might see that if one time you walk into his office, he goes out of his way to make time to acknowledge you or pay attention to you or perhaps if you meet him in the hallway he stops wherever he is going to chat.

You want to have little moments where you do a bit more than you normally would and see if he responds.

If, and only if, you might be interested in him, then invite him out for coffee and lunch events. Do however make it plain that any relationship should never come into conflict with your job.
