People who are interested in others are often regarded as interesting.

It’s similar to a situation described in Dale Carnegie’s “How to Win Friends and Influence People” where he asked a man about his work and hobbies and simply listened to all this man had to say about his work. Despite having said very little, the man had regarded him as highly interesting and a provocative conversationalist.

Quite often; less is more.

U dont need to be overly interesting but first impressions are everything; i know bums who have plenty of game - "If when u flirt theres not a chance ur gunna get rejected thats not flirting" dont talk about her class thats to safe and "friendly" talk about her cute smile or nice legs; boosts everyones self esteem in the process

Music can be good. Games of skill like poker. My husband played guitar and poker when we met and I thought it was sexy as heck. Other options are arts, poetry, philosophy, or storytelling. Especially young women love learning about these from a guy.

Girls are not interested in what video games you play or what you watch on Netflix. Those activities, for most college girls, sound boring and if they get the impression that that is the extent of your social life, then they definitely won't get interested in you.
Guidance counselor questions (what's your major, how do you like your classes, how are your grades going) are what her parents ask her. Don't remind her of her parents when you are trying to have fun with her. These should be your absolutely last resort ice breakers, and for the love of god never use them at parties.
College girls want to have fun. If you can demonstrate that you are going to be fun to hang out with, then you have already done most of the work. For guys that don't put much effort into going out in the weekends, then this is where you need to start.
If you don't have many friends that do social stuff, then this should be your number one goal, instead of trying to come off as "an interesting guy". Expand your circle of friends so that when you do meet a girl you hit it off with, you can invite her to "a friends party this weekend" or something along these lines.
And before you even worry about hooking up with girls, you should have female friends. For starters, girls are attracted to guys that other girls like to hang out with. And if you invite her to parties where she is the only girl, she will quickly get bored (possibly creeped out). Having a diverse crowd of friends is honestly the best way to come as an "interesting guy".
Most college hook ups come from a friend of a friend. I actually hated college parties, but I really had fun flirting with women and hooking up with them. So what did I do? I'd throw parties with my roommates and we'd invite all the girls we knew and the guys we knew would invite other people.Eventually, all these people would show up to get krunk (goes to show my age) and I'd end up meeting many new girls to flirt with that night.

I hope these ideas can help you get off the ground. It sounds like your just starting off your college life and you just need a bit of direction on how to get to where you want.

I'm going to steal an exercise from a Stephen R. Covey book to answer this question. Imagine you've died. You're at your funeral, your body is an casket. Everyone you know has shown up. During the service there are going to be several speakers. There's one person from your family, one person from your community, one person from your college and there's a friend.

Besides niceties about what a good person you were, what would you want these people to say about you? What things that you've done would you want them to mention? What stories about you would you want them to tell?

Think about these things and write down a story for each speaker and then go from there. Are you satisfied with what they're saying? What else would you like them to say?

After you finish writing this you'll probably discover there are things you're proud of but also things that you still want to achieve. Since you're not really dead you can go out and do that shit and become a more interesting person.

Here's the thing. You're focused on this as if being interesting is what good conversation comes from. This is false. What you need is:

Good follow-up to what she's said that leads the conversation further into territory she's interested in.
You get a good follow-up by actively listening to what she says when she speaks. Not by memorizing anything or finding a magic topic.
