So I have constantly been dating for the past 6 years, and am relatively recently single as of a few months ago. I recently found and have been browsing this sub, and have learned a lot! I have no experience trying to actively pickup girls, but I am outgoing and like to socialize and joke around with everyone. Still, I have never directly approached strangers to hit on them. I'll try to keep the story short, but it was an exciting experience and I really want to tell someone!

I was in the hot tub at my university pool with two friends and saw this lifeguard that was just my type. I felt deep down in my core that this had to be the beginning of me finally getting out there and applying what I have learned in this sub, but I was too afraid. I felt so shallow for wanting go after a girl for her looks, but she has so many traits that I find attractive! She also grabbed the rails of the pool ladder and did a couple cute, athletic, simple gymnast poses that made me melt. I knew I wanted to, but I just felt too scared to do anything, and I thought a pool would be a weird place to approach someone lol. The whole time I was lowkey thinking of how I could meet her after we left, but I knew it would be pretty unlikely unless I come back again (which I never have time for). So after half an hour the pool and hot tub close, my friends and I left and changed, and I was a bit bummed I wouldn't see her again.

I was outside the locker room waiting for my friends, and one of them came out and we talked for a bit while waiting for the other friend. We were both looking at our phones, and for some reason I just needed to tell him that there was that cute life guard at the pool but I didn't have the balls to talk to her. He said she was right behind me (my back was to a staircase with tall railings), but I didn't believe him and thought he was just messing with me like all guys do. He was like no for real she's right behind you going up the stairs right now. I looked behind me and she really was! I said "Oh shit, do you think she heard me" and my friend said "yeah she probably did man, go talk to her". I grabbed my phone and literally ran up the stairs after her.

I came up to her as she was reaching the top of the stairs, and said "excuse me" and she turned around and yelped a bit and said I scared her! We laughed it off real quick and she said it was okay, and then I realized that I didn't really know what to say! So not the best start and I was already panicking. I didn't expect to run into her, so I straight up fumbled my way through the conversation. I told her I saw here at the pool and thought she was cute, and somehow I got her to let me put my number in her phone. I tried to be casual and act like it was no big deal, gave her my number so it was up to her what happened, and told her to just text me if she felt like getting to know me. My voice and hands were shaking and my hair was a mess from the pool. I felt like a fool, but I did it!!

I honestly was hesitant because I am so busy with work and school and don't want to devote the time to getting to know and date someone right now too. But I knew I was making excuses because I was scared, too. I don't even mind if she doesn't text me, because I am just happy I approached her!! I didn't even expect to make a successful exchange of phone numbers my first try, but here I am! I know I will want to try to approach girls in the future, so I am glad to get the practice in! I did a lot wrong, but I know how improve thanks to you all! Sorry if this story rambled at all, but you all are usually pretty supportive, and I am glad I can tell anyone!!
