37M here, speaking from personal experience.

First of all, I feel you. Balding sucks, and no matter what people tell you, it does a very good job at gutting your self esteem.

I started balding in my early twenties like you, and have spent at least a decade and a half fighting emotional battles with my thinning locks. My hair loss became my obsession, and it came to define me in a way that drove me to depression.

By far and away the best decision I ever made was to just shave that shit off, grow out a beard, get ripped and come to terms with a new hairless badass version of myself. Nobody can 'rock a bald head' until they can. And the only reason they can and you can’t is because they choose to and own it.

That being said, people who just blatantly shout 'shave it off' are missing the point: you're only 21, and perhaps not emotionally ready yet to go bald. That's perfectly okay; you're a young man after all, and how you look is important to you.

So instead of shaving it off, allow me to suggest an alternative: try a somewhat longer (#5) buzz cut! A buzz cut suits nearly every guy (look at those military dudes), and it takes all the worry away that comes with asking yourself 'how does my hair look' every other minute. It'll look exactly the same, rain or shine, day to day. It'll also help you get used to the inevitability of going bald down the line, as the step from a buzz to a shave isn't that big. A nice bonus is that it dries very quickly, is very low-cost (you can do it yourself or have a friend / family member do it for you) and low maintenance.

Whatever you choose to do, make it so you choose the look, instead of making the look choose you. Owning your own fate shows masculinity, strength and confidence.

Trust me also that it will get better over time. Once you hit your thirties and your dating pool gets older, you'll start seeing that there is quite a large subset of women who actually prefer bald dudes. I'm in a committed relationship now, but I can tell you I've never gotten laid as often as I did when I was 37, single, confident and as bald as I'd ever been.

Final note on treatments: there is the 'big three' (finasteride, ketoconazole and minoxidil), but speak to a doctor first. Finasteride works well (it sure as hell did for me), but it has some very, very nasty potential side effects, impotence being one of them. I decided in the end that it wasn't worth the risks and effort and just shaved it all off.

You’re getting beautiful advice from these guys, to which I have only a small bit to add:

I remember losing my hair in my twenties, going through the grief and denial, trying different haircuts to hide it. When it got too thin I shaved it off. It was hard to do.

Within a few years I had stopped thinking about it. It was just the new me.

Now, 20-ish years later I view it as a net positive.

As many have stated the bald, bearded muscular tattooed look is attractive to many women. Just recently I was talking about plastic surgery to a women who has known me forever. I said “there isn’t much I would change about myself, but if I could snap my fingers and have my hair back I’d do it.” She laughed and said “oh no! Why would you do that, you’re so much sexier this way!”

The bald head and beard look is masculine, aggressive and virile.

What you are now so scared of will either be a non-issue or even a blessing someday.

Dave Asprey and Ben Greenfield (heavy hitters in the biohacking sphere) have done articles or podcasts on hair loss. C60 fullerenes are one of the newer treatments. There are a lot of things you can try before you join the Sexy Bald Side.

Also, If you shave your head, treat your naked head like an extension of your face. Moisturize, exfoliate, sunscreen. You want your beautiful bald melon to look healthy. A slight tan will help as well.

Female here. I know you're looking for the guys advice, but IMHO, looks are NOT everything. First of all, anyone who would judge you based on your hair is completely unworthy of your time. Seriously.
Secondly, if you're a good person and have other positive qualities about you, you're golden. I'm sorry you're struggling with this, I'm sure it's not easy. Keep your head up and redirect that worried and anxious energy to continue to better yourself and grow as a person.

You've heard this but heck, just accept it. Or fake that you do. Because you're gonna lose that fight. Focus on winning the fitness, style and personality game. Another option is to invest in finding a good micropigmentation tattooist to do a natural hairline (dont do that straight line bs) because that will give shape to your face.

Getting muscular and wearing a beard compliments a bald head. Do that and you can likely pull it off, some women even dig this look above others. Other than that if you don't have the full cul-de-sac just wearing it medium short likely looks better than you think, depending on your pattern it can even look dignified.

If you're dead set on keeping it there's a bunch of natural methods that work for some like rolling/needling and some oils, worth a shot. The fourth option is surgery or meds but imo it's a waste of money.

Try these and I'm taking medication like minoxidil These is finasteride but there were so many reviews like it's dangerous and cause impotence so better don't go for that Finasteride is fine

I'm not balding enough to justify having to shave it permanently yet but definitely have a mature hairline. It's something almost all men have to come to terms with at some point, so I don't sweat it. If it can't be helped, why stress?

I think clean shaven heads are a good look for most men, it's just a culture shock if you've had longer hair all your life. Personally, i think it's the most masculine hairstyle a man can have. Done it a few times and loved it when I was younger (once during a heatwave, once when I was removing dreadlocks, and once again when I was bored). It was liberating to not have to style my hair or worry about how it looked during the day.

If you're stage 3 Norwood or higher, it's time to consider embracing it. Every hairstyle is gonna be styled to hide it, which only draws attention to it.

Don't even consider what other people think. People who judge others for their appearance are people who's opinions aren't even worth considering.

my buddy started balding at your age, but picks up tons of chicks with personality and style. He wears a newsboy, flat cap, or beanie with major success. It's his fashion statement. I'm sure it was difficult for him, but his confidence is BIG now Some girls only date bald guys with beards or mustaches by the way. My sister is one of them! Maybe try growing one out if you can!

The outer doesn’t matter bro. Like many have said whether you have hair on your head or not, workout get jacked or shredded you can do a beard or a goatee. Remember the inner you. A man a wolf a fucking killer that goes for what he wants SHOW YOUR FANGS. I’m 22 and I couldn’t imagine losing my head of hair but if I did I probably would be down....would I stop playing the game??? NEVER
