There's this idea in sales known as "qualifying a prospect". What this means is that you see whether the person you're talking to is qualified to buy your product/service. If a girl tells you "I have a boyfriend" or gives you a hard rejection immediately, then that means they're not qualified and you'd be better off moving on and talking to another girl. If she doesnt have a BF she wont be able to answer this quickly. Then you know she was lying.

If she answers quick then she's legit, you move it along to the next girl.

The "I have a BF" line is so overused half of the time it's a lie to get you off their back. Cant blame them though as it works on most guys.
