Wage Gap was proven by a Nobel prize winner to be due to maternity leave.

There is no wage gap for equal jobs & experience.

Experience is the key.

Most women take maternity leave. Here in Germany, that's 1 year plus they normally get pregnant when they return.

So over 5 years, the man is supervisor or manager, while the woman is still entry level with 3 years experience. That's a significant difference in salary.

Men can take the 1 year off, but good luck with her agreeing to that.

I read that the other day when someone posted it on FB. I wrote this response

"Is this 16% wrong though, if you look at the stats that produced this number you will see that it isn't for the same work or even in the same industry, it's across the board for full-time workers. You know what else, MEN work 13% longer hours across the board. That leaves only a 3% difference, which can be accounted for in other ways, e.g. since men work more hours they also have more experience when they look for a job"

That did not go over well.

Women actually earn 17% more than men for the same work. When they are single and at the height of their careers. Funny how no one complains about that

That's good that it's shrinking. How's the alimony gap? How's the paternity/maternity leave gap? How's the child-support gap?

It's absurd that this wage 'gap' continues to get talked about, in this day and age, yet other markers of inequality are completely ignored.
