How about being the subject to abuse and violence? That stays with you for life. Even if you work through it, it comes back.

Man or Woman, you can tell how a person has been treated when they even flinch at kind actions.

And what's terrible is that abusers go on to abuse and those who were abused often times find themselves in similar abusive relationships in the future even if they tried to avoid it.
