I’m wondering u/Miserexa - what are your thoughts on this one? She’s not a fourth wave radfem because at least she acknowledges that men are human and most are good, but she is still being misandrist by implying that men are all potential threats, and that they’re a bad man if they think it’s irrational to choose the bear.

The original comment of the guy she screenshotted is 100% accurate too….

This is a very disappointing take- Michaela posts a lot about societal issues like loneliness and male mental health, but has clearly no consideration for the men who’s mental health may have suffered as a result of being compared to bears or as a result of being called more dangerous than a bear, sheerly by virtue of their genitals. Innocent men are being vilified. You know what’s especially upsetting? A few months back she mistakenly linked to a misandrist post… apologised sincerely for it and said it was wrong to vilify all men based on the actions of a few.

Funnily enough, I’ve seen a lot of her Tweets and she seems like a well meaning lady, and what makes her stick in my mind is that when she apologised for that misandrist link a couple of months ago, my partner actually got in touch with her at that time and assured me he had a very polite interaction with her where she apologised for the miscommunication, he even opened up about his own mental struggles and she was sympathetic and understanding etc… he’s a deeply sensitive soul, god bless him, and I know how much having somebody sympathise with him and understanding him meant to him- it meant so much that he even showed a bit of the conversation to me at the time (he’s had so many people in his life dismiss him and discard him, poor guy). And so I know this comment will set him right off again if he sees it… as he’s one who mass generalizations really get to. He’s not a “dangerous man” for that, he’s my fucking rock, and I know how upset he’ll be seeing somebody who he really appreciated the sympathy from, now completely backtracking.

And also, again, if self-identification is a thing and we shouldn’t assume genders anymore, how do these people know who to consider a man and who to consider a woman just from looking at them? E.g. a person they’ve interpreted as a man might actually identify as non-binary. Or they might make the assumption somebody’s a man based on their build, only to have that person be a trans woman- misandry and transphobia go hand in hand.

Replace the word men in her bottom comment with Muslims, and you’ll realised how prejudiced she is.

“I am wary of all Muslims I don’t know, not because I think all Muslims are bad, but because I don’t know which ones all be, but so many Muslims take that as an attack on every Muslim. The majority of Muslims are good but a small amount give the rest a bad name”. - you realise how fucked up it is when put that way, don’t you?

Also, “a small amount give the rest a bad name”… because individual men reflect men as a collective now… Jesus Christ. If somebody said “a small amount of women give the rest a bad name”, it would rightly be called out as sexist BS (because it tars the female collective with one brush) but for some reason when it’s about men, it’s considered OK. A human being is responsible for 2 things- what they do, and what they don’t do. They’re not responsible for the actions of others who share genitals with them, so stop treating them as a hive mind.

I'm sorry, but it's just patronizing. Like, the big complaint is that we won't listen, but it's like listening to a generic PSA telling you "drugs are bad, mmmkay." Like, yeah, we fuckin know. Now maybe you should finally fire the PE teacher that's been selling kids drugs and the English teacher that's been getting drunk on the job, and maybe the criticism would ring true.

Problem is a lot of these men don't live terminally online and we know how the real world works, and we can all just turn around and see that these sanctimonious idiots that want to make us feel like shit are still empowering toxic social models and still complying with the idea that men should be terrifying because that's our role.

I understand that female victimization needs to be talked about but this hypothetical still doesn't make any sense. A woman being attacked by a MAN will ask ANYONE for help. In fact, they actually get mad when the random men don't help (which is very understandable imo). So if a bear is attacking them the first thing they're gonna do is ask any person within reach for assistance. I also doubt that even if the prize money was a million dollars that they would want to sit next to a bear than a man. They do it all the time.

Obviously there are exclusions. A strange man standing in your backyard is different than a bear. The bear most likely is just gonna sniff around (maybe even break in your car). Bear type shit. A man in your backyard could be up to know good. I get that. It makes sense.

However, the question is about any random man in the woods with you vs. a bear (the species needs to be specified since all bears aren't created equal). Not which would you rather have snooping around your house. Black bears can be scared off easily so I'd understand if they picked black bear. Not to mention every time someone tries to prove their point on why they pick bear, they always show footage of black bears. So black bears it is. Anything else is a bust.

Anyways, here's a clip of a woman being attacked by a bull even though she was repeatedly told not to go near it.

Isn’t it ironic, don’t you think?

This was in Dec 23 and it was nice- she was showing a care for men and that they were, appreciated.

But then a few months down the line she buys into the man/bear debate and implies that bears are more dangerous, and she says that the men who tell women that the bear choice isn’t safer, are the dangerous ones. That’s ridiculous- the irony of her claiming to care about men’s mental health, whilst then a few months later completely disregarding the impact the bear debate would’ve had on some men’s mental health who don’t want to be viewed as threats due to their gender.

and as well as that they say “we don’t know which men are good and bad”. But we also don’t know which women are good and bad either… yet we don’t automatically assume the worst about them.

So it shouldn’t really be gender specific- I’m always tempted to come back with “do you know which women are good and bad either? Because if not why aren’t you afraid of them? Why are men guilty until proven innocent but women innocent until proven guilty?”

But that Michaela is obviously a massive hypocrite

I will say I don't think you're a misandrist if you're wary around men you don't know as a woman. Some women have trauma that has been caused by men and I think it's completely reasonable to not trust a random man you don't know- so long as you aren't hating on men as a gender. While you can argue you should do the same with women, it is true that there are certain forms of violence that you're more likely to have a man inflict upon you than another woman unfortunately. This isn't all men, and isn't because a man is a man, but due to the society we live in and the forms of misogyny that exist I don't think it's an unreasonable fear.

But choosing to be around a bear over a man is insane to me. What is the question? To be locked in a room with one or the other? I'd choose a random man any day over a bear.
