So the issue is deeper than the press and in a sense it’s not the press’s fault here: they have to report in line with the actual conviction, and unfortunately biological women cannot be charged with rape in England and Wales, as the charge of rape is legally defined to involve penetration with the rapist’s penis. Women can instead be charged with sexual assault, which has a much lower minimum but in theory has a similar maximum - but of course this is rarely the case with women and men for the same crime anyway, even in places where the definition of rape is equal.

Look. I completely agree that the word rapist should be used for women who are rapists. I also believe pedo should be used.

They probably can't call her a rapist because I would bet that the way the law is written, she can't be charged with rape since she doesn't have a penis.

Little known fact about rape stats. Part of the reason they're so heavily skewed is because women committing it simply don't count in a lot of places because the crime rape is defined in a way that excludes women from being capable of committing it.

It'll be worded so that it requires the perpetrator to be penetrative the victim, for example. So, when a female teacher has sex with a minor student, it's not rape. It'll be called Aggravated Sexual Assault or something. Might (unlikely) have a similar punishment associated with it. But it won't be rape, so it doesn't count towards rape stats.
