Healthy Relationship Question
Context: Currently been in a LTR and we have been exclusive for about a year now. I think we started being exclusive at about month 4 into dating. I'm a Chinese American and she is Asian in Asia. I'm living in Asia currently. I'm a digital nomad that works from home and 40 years old. She is 29 years old and a Doctor.
Question about financial expectations in relationship: Does the guy, as the leader, pay for everything? Or, should the guy simply state what his beliefs are on it (regardless of cultural and social expectations) and see if the girl will follow? At the beginning, I paid for all the dates but we didn't do anything fancy. We eat out every meal (eating out is cheaper than cooking in Thailand). At the beginning, she would treat me once in a while to a meal and I would let her. Then, we went on a vacation and I told her that I'd pay for the plane tickets and room, she could cover some of the meals and pay for the activities. She was ok with it and this went well. Then, we went on 2 other trips after that in which I paid the hotel and transport. She paid for some of the meals and made an effort without asking. Fast forward to now, I find myself paying for all 90% of the meals although she would buy some small things. Currently, I make more money than her but I think our income levels will be more even after she gets a new job at another hospital. For some reason, I feel like she should make more of an effort to pay for things. Or maybe it is an issue of more effort overall and not a financial thing? The reason I say this is because she seems to have a hard line on not cleaning (dishes, laundry, mopping etc). We said she would pay for a housekeeper and dishwasher (we don't currently live together). She said this on the 2nd date I believe. So, if she cannot help out around the house, then I don't know what else she can do to display effort towards the relationship? Seems like a bit of a princess although it is only specifically this cleaning thing that is an issue - we haven't had any arguments or problems with anything else.
Am I overreacting? I am just thinking about the future - if we live together, will this cleaning thing be an issue? And the financial thing is a consideration. I don't mind paying for meals but not comfortable eating upscale restaurants all the time. I also am thinking that if I have a child with this woman, would the whole cleaning thing be an issue down the line.
