I'll concede that, following birth, it is only rational that the person who gave birth should have special treatment. Just like any major medical operation.

If my girlfriend did have a baby, I wouldn't let her wash a single dish or cook a single meal until she was fully recovered.

As a matter of fact, I already wash most of the dishes and cook all the meals for us lol. Just to head off anyone who might accuse me of hating women or having her do that most of the time. That's not the case.

However, in the months and years that follow, it... doesn't change?

Every time you see a guy having problems and sharing them with Reddit, if he and his wife are parents, the tone is really sexist all of a sudden.

Suddenly he needs to shut up again. How dare he question the mother of his child. Her life is the hardest thing in the universe. He's lucky she even talks to him anymore, since she went through the hardship of having a kid... 10 years ago... which she also wanted and chose...

And then there's postpartum depression, which to Reddit, even absolves the mother of physical abuse. Seriously, every single time a woman hits a man, if they have a baby the top comment is "don't overreact, have her see a doctor, it's probably postpartum depression."

Call me crazy, but I don't think even wild hormones are a good reason to beat your spouse. Feel whatever you want, but hitting is another level.

I know equality is mostly one-sided anyway, but it really seems like once you become a parent, even the pretense of caring about men's feelings and well-being falls away and people openly hate you for still thinking you should matter to your own family.

I can't help but think this is part of the reason so many people don't want kids these days.
