Florence E. Allen became both the first woman to be elected to the positions of general jurisdiction court in 1920 and the first female state appellate judge through her election to the Ohio Supreme Court in 1922. She later became the first female federal appellate judge, appointed to the 6th Circuit in 1933. The Los Angeles Women's Judge Georgia Bullock was finally appointed to an 'official' judgeship in 1931. The first female judge to serve on a federal district court, Burnita Shelton Matthews, was appointed in 1949 to the United States District Court for the District of Columbia.

Juries? Bullshit.

When the Great Depression struck the nation in the 1930s, organizations like the Federal Grand Jury Association (FGJA),^\8]) a voluntary association of present or former grand jurors in the Southern District, began to expand their requirements for those who could serve on juries to retain working men in their positions and have enough jurors serving in the court.

In the 1930s and 1940s, "middle-class women demanded to serve on juries as a right of equal citizenship."^\9]) At this time, the League of Women Voters and the National Woman's Party demanded the right to be considered for jury duty. Although women had gained the right to vote in 1920, they were not given the same obligation to the state as men in serving on a jury.^\5])^\9]) When they were allowed to participate on juries, the women who desired to serve had to do so through voluntary submission. This narrowed the female pool to middle-class women who were strong activists in the women's movement. In 1937, woman federal jurors won official approval and in some states, including California, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Minnesota, Michigan, Nebraska, New Jersey, Ohio and Pennsylvania, participation on a jury was compulsory.^\10])

I have to say there’s some irony here. It’s like asking when men were first allowed to be drafted. Women were long able to easily get out of jury duty if they wanted. That’s a privilege.

Federal juries, yes. States allowed women to sit on juries at various different times starting in the late 1800s with Wyoming.

This is one one of those questions where you’ll get answers at both extremes but the truth is in the middle. Those dates are when federal law insisted that women be allowed to have those roles, but most states allowed women well before this. So technically the way it’s written the claims are false, but it is true that in some parts of the US women were denied those roles until the dates given.
