Military should be loosening regulations to encourage more enlistments, and instead are clinging to rules that largely don't matter.

Air Force, colloquially the most popular branch because of its cushy reputation, recently increased their age restrictions for new enlistees from 27 to 40. And they're still struggling to hit recruitment numbers.

Having a 5 o'clock shadow doesn't make you combat ineffective. The military has been PLAGUED by terrible middle management for decades as good soldiers bail for better opportunities outside of the armed forces leaving the people who largely couldn't make it in private employment, and this is a result of those trash middle managers failing upwards into leadership positions and continuing to be awful to everyone that encounters them.

I'm pretty sure the military, all branches with possible exception to the Marines (said as an Army pseudo-veteran) have hit an event horizon that they cannot recover from. Leadership cannot be fixed at this point, and dwindling recruitment will only lead to additional struggles that pile on and further exacerbate the situation infinitely.

This is utter madness from the military

For starters most employers have zero issues with employees having beards

Unless your situation is being in an area filled with deadly gas and wearing an n95 mask and goggles wearing a beard would work just fine

I wonder what will happen when there aren't enough soldiers to keep things running. Especially since they clearly aren't willing to restructure in a way that's beneficial. Even worse is the parallel between military promotions and corporate promotions with everyone failing upwards and the better people leaving

Sure would be nice if men could have some bodily autonomy, you know, in exchange for being cannon fodder for the oligarch monsters that continue to pillage the world under the guise of "freedom"

Prior military here. The main reason beards are a no no is because you can't get a proper seal around your face when you don a gas mask, respirator, or a breathing apparatus. Air/ gas/smoke will be able to seep in.
