The crux of it is really colonialism. Yes there are some universal traits that are appreciated by human nature (e.g. hip-to-waist ratio in women, fuller lips in women etc.) but the fact that we appreciate white features specifically is borne out of colonialism / the Western-centric nature of the world order for the past 500 years. Lest we forget that prior to that the Middle East and Asia were far richer than Europe.
