Right now, there are numerous awards for women in the workplace ie like the Women in Business Awards mentioned above. And it s always assumed that men get plenty of awards anyway, as the 'dominant' gender in key professions, so we should lift women up more with awards grants etc. But recognition matters for men too. So to take a leaf out of the other side s book, we should set up a special Award for Men.

This could take the form of a specialised certificate or trophy to start with, aimed at a marginalised group of men, such as men with disabilities, or from disadvantaged backgrounds: but specifically the male identifying members of these groups. Taking from the women s examples, we could award male mentoring, career growth, men s service to their community, or personal development.

We could also consider giving an award in the form of positive discrimination, such as a 'rising star' award for men who work in the caring or teaching professions, to encourage more to join.

Whichever form it takes, men in the workplace will be inspired if they know that they are at least being thanked in some way. I think it will go far to boost their self esteem.

An award for men could make a lot of difference. We should give it a try.
