Recently a 17 year old girl was murdered in The Netherlands while on her way home from a night out. Needless to say, this is obviously horrible.
However, the response to this attack has ben very dissapointing to me. Because now itās all the hype in the media to talk about how unsave women are out on the streets alone (at night). Thereās even this sort of movement going on of women āclaiming the night for themselvesā.
On the right, they only talk about the fact the man who killer her was a refugee. Occasionally theyāll talk about how our women arenāt safe anymore out on the streets, because of refugees.
So far, there seems to be very little mention of the real facts though. Which is that men get killed more often than women. I also know way more stories of guys I know or friends of guys I know who got attacked or even beaten up on their night out. āSurprisinglyā, nobody seems to really be talking about this.
I just now saw an item about if women should start going out with weapons (like tasers and pepperspray) on them. But what about us guys? Are we not allowed to arm ourselves? Does our safety not matter? Even if, as far as I know, we are way more likely to be attacked.
I know you guys canāt do much with this information, but I needed a place to talk about my frustrations. This situation just really made me realize how little society cares about my safety as a man.
