No i don't think so. I think feminism just isn't for men. It's like saying a Donkey Sanctuary will save the Whales.

Occasionally a progressive publication will take this line. E.g sometimes when male suicide comes up the publication will respond by getting a feminist to say male gender roles prevent men from talking about their feelings etc so the solution is more feminism. This is a myth, men typically have sought help before suicide. In actual fact really quite cheap interventions like phone lines and advertising campaigns have had a big impact (see Merseyside UK) so this talk of more feminism to me is no more than a cynical attempt to ensure no money is spent on men and to bring the focus back to feminism. And there are other examples such as child custody. That women are seen as primary carers by default leads to more care hours for them, leads to them being held back at work and feminists do push back against that. But the flip side of it is maybe men should get child custody more often. No feminist wants that. They want their cake and eat it. For parenting to be shared endeavour, and child custody to be women's to control.

Further the examples above are the most male friendly perspectives in feminism. Regarding male suicide plenty of feminists think good, let's have some more. And plenty of feminists think men should have no rights to their kids whatsoever.

Yeah, nah. Been there done that. Been lectured by other feminist men about feminism only to venture into understanding it myself and realizing what you just said. There are quite a few important voices in feminism that understand that gender roles are harmful to men just as much. Chimamanda Adichie and Bell Hooks come to mind. It’s a pretty obvious concept too, I mean it’s not like women are raised full of expectations from society, but men are born in a vacuum. But as obvious as that is, most feminists don’t do it for the equality. As the son of an abusive mother (not father), I watched over the decades society talk and talk and talk about all these issues that affect women and I always thought “yeah, that’s ME TOO!”, but no-one gave a damn. The feminist men from before don’t know the names I just mentioned. Especially not the several female health care professionals I’ve been “taken care” by. None of them would even consider the possibility that my past experience in childhood would affect the outcomes in my adult life (I know right?). It took me what? ten years to find one psychologist who understood I needed compassion. The first time ever in my life I received true compassion was with a 40yo male psychologist. That’s how fucked up this is. So no man, you’ll have to start another movement, cause feminism ain’t it.

Feminism is not an egalitarian movement! Feminism claims to be egalitarian, and tries to market itself as such. In some cases it wants to replace the term egalitarian with the word feminism.

The ERA would have made women equal. Women rejected it in one of feminism's most humiliating defeats. I believe the same dynamic that rejected it is what kept the majority of women from supporting suffrage, until they could be assured it would not subject women to the draft. Whatever its dictionary definition, feminism in practice has always been a push for the power of men, the privileges of women and the accountability of children.

I can see where I think you may be coming from and if I am correct I once considered your viewpoint. But what I stated in my last paragraph (among other things) quickly disavowed me of the idea.

Gender roles and gender stereotypes that have existed since the beginning of time and are present in every successful culture are not socially imposed and cannot be socially erased. The path to anything like real equality between the sexes lies in recognizing this and honestly and in good faith praising the good traits and recognizing the bad traits inherent in both genders.

I don't think Big Sister is going to be interested in that anytime soon.

"That kind" of Feminism never existed; there's nothing in the modern movement that wasn't there at Seneca Falls.

In the Western world, women have every right men do, and several more on top of that- how, in any way, is that a "Patriarchy"? What system oppresses people who live longer lives, with more rights and fewer obligations?
