Providing proof that an accusation ist false is even harder than proving it to be true. That's one of the reasons why innocent until proven guilty is so important, because definitive evidence that something DID NOT happen is often impossible to obtain or simply doesn't exist.

It's hard enough to find evidence to prove rape occur beyond a reasonable doubt. Of course the number of definitive cases of false accusations are going to be very low. You'd have to prove a negative, which is incredibly unlikely to be possible beyond reasonable doubt.

On the other hand, it's probably pretty obvious someone got struck by lightning, for the simple fact that most will seek/need medical care afterwards.

The male population of Ontario age 15-30 is about 1.5 million.

If you live in Ontario, the odds that your son was one of the five specific hockey players falsely accused of rape in one single high-profile absolutely incontrovertible incident are higher than that.

The big issue with these stats is that its almost impossible to call an accusation false legally. We need to include in these stats all the accusations that are unprovable, unfounded or unable to be prosecuted... suddenly thr stats become far more realistic and far more alarming.
