So I have this guy friend. He’s in a long distance relationship with his gf. They’ve been together for a year now. He’s been a really nice guy. I valued our friendship and he has been a part of our friend group for the longest time.

We’re in college and you know, as it naturally goes I started developing feelings for different people. Plus we have this dating campus app that everyone uses. Obviously, sometimes I like a guy but things don’t work out, and we just forget about each other, and I just update him on the situation. But lately I’ve been talking to him about a new guy I really like and have been seeing, and how I’m insecure about whether or not he likes me. And you know what he said? My guy friend told me, “Oh, I feel like you’re trying to get in a relationship too much” like he was giving commentary on my life. Like it’s literally none of his business.

All this time I thought we were friends, but all of a sudden, he turned on me. And it’s not like I’m going on a lot of dates, I just tell him little details or thoughts I have on someone that I enjoy talking to, just like any other friend around me does. It’s literally a common thing in an environment where you meet so many people. I don’t know where he got that idea. I feel like he just gets off the fact of humbling me. And he’s being hypocritical because he always tells me how much he loves his girlfriend and how it’s so nice to be in a relationship. How come he brags about being so happy, and then not let another person want that, and then judge me for it. I’m so sorry I’m not as lucky as you and I’m actually putting in effort???

I should also mention that the only reason I decided to share something personal to them because it was in a group setting. My other male friend and he were talking about the dating scene. My other male friend was talking about a girl he was seeing and my guy friend was totally cool by it and congratulated him, while getting frustrated at me.

Now I feel so pissed off because when I asked him what he meant by that, and told him I thought it was insensitive, he was like, ‘Oh, I’m just saying you should be careful.’ Then later he denied saying what he said in the first place, and he flipped the whole thing like he was the good guy and I’m being the one who is overly sensitive. Like come on, this dude over here is trying to shame me for being open while I’m trying to share something personal because I trusted him. I’m so done.

If he really was concerned about me, he would have picked his words carefully and stopped being so argumentative and hostile towards me. But his excuses are just backhanded..
