Last Christmas Eve, my now ex absolutely blew up her relationship with her own daughter. My mom (her grandmother) passed away a few weeks before Christmas after a long, slow illness. The ex moved out of state so she called via zoom to speak to our kid. My daughter refused to be on camera but she was sitting beside me. Likely bc she was still upset about her first Christmas without her Mimi. I mentioned my moms passing (she was aware, not a secret) to the ex and I am paraphrasing her response to her own child. Said this to her.

‘Well, it’s not like you gave a shit about your Mimi. I’m not even sure why you’re upset. You never gave a shit about her.’

I’m so stunned at that moment I didn’t initially react. But my daughter did. She exploded. Started screaming at her mom ’How fucking DARE YOU!!’ crying hysterically.

I looked at my ex and said WTF was that?!? and she looked at me and said ‘You know I’m right, why is she she pretending’.

That was the final time they have ever spoken. Yes there are mental issues.

High point, one less person to stress over buying a Xmas present for. Low point is without a doubt the broken nuclear family

High points is listening to Christmas songs and watching movies...also dressing up as Santa for the kiddos but I stopped doing that because pedos ruin it for everyone.

Low points, missing her, her family, my nieces. Garden variety of loss I guess.

High points are spending more time with my aging mother, seeing my friends, continuing to build the relationship with my son. Additionally not having to fake time with her family, friends, and son. Never cared for the in-laws or her crazy sisters.

Low points are not having the holiday vibe, bitterness, jaded, loneliness, sadness, and depression.

What will I change next year taking the advice of the many strong men in this group as well as my therapist and making time for myself, enjoying the freedom, exploring the world and life with a fresh perspective. And finally realizing I am responsible for my own happiness. Having a partner or spouse or whatever is less important than having my mental health, my physical health, and an actual life.
