I’m contemplating dropping my lawyer and representing myself. I’m well aware of the common sayings about defending yourself in court, but I’ve reached the point where I’m at the end of my rope.

I won’t get into the details, but my divorce has been incredibly ugly—far uglier than I ever imagined it could be.

I have no assets and very limited cash flow, and my STBX refuses to be reasonable about trying to settle. Nearly $975k in debt is all in her name, and we have zero assets. It’s a staggering situation and a long story, but realistically this only ends in bankruptcy.

Despite that, she continues to argue over every detail and every dollar. We have kids, and I’ve reached the point where I’m willing to accept less than a full 50/50 custody arrangement if it helps bring this to a resolution. It feels like the only bargaining chip left to move things forward.

Someone her and her family is fronting her the money for her lawyer and it’s not going to last. I’m done with the 12 fucking emails between lawyers to try and arrange a time/day to pick up my kids. This has turned into one big long drawn out train wreck and the lawyers are making money off every ridiculous stupid situation she disagrees too.

I’m at the point where I really have nothing to lose so why not represent myself and try and max out her legal expenses until she has no option other than to settle.

Curious to hear from others who have represented themselves-
