It’s really up to both of the people in the relationship but I hear everyone in the relationship should know how they feel about exclusivity by the end of the third month of seeing each other.

It simply takes 2 people to agree to be exclusive, and if you can’t get you both to agree then it can’t happen, time literally has no affect on it.

While it's up to you, I'd say the ideal timeline is around 2-3 months from you start dating. Then you usually have enough time to get to know each other relatively well before making a decision. But it depends a bit on how old you are, and how serious you want to get.

If you're teenagers looking to have a short relationship lasting maybe 3-4 months to a year or two, then you can get together on day 1 if you so please.

If you're 40 and you want to find a person to stay with the rest of your life, 4 months is probably a good ballpark time to really dig deep into whether you fit well together.
