Ever heard the parable about the foot steps in the sand? I’m not particularly into religion anymore but I was raised a catholic. Just because your life has “gone to shit” for one year doesn’t mean it won’t:

make you more resilient
work harder for success
swallow your pride
be grateful for everything you do have

Life is hard. Nobody here disagrees with that. Believing in God isn’t just for people who have really successful lives. God has (arguably) gotten people through really hard times. Whether you choose to believe or not, I think your reasoning for giving up on God is invalidated.

I was about your age when I decided to leave christianity behind.

I was raised southern Baptist and am now agnostic. I thought atheism was the way for a while and went around evangelizing it. Blamed my parents for raising me southern Baptist which I believed made me a pussy and a “nice guy”.

After I got out all of my victim puking (took a few years) I recognized that my experiences certainly shaped who I was but they didn’t define what I could be. I knew exactly what I needed to work on, took responsibility for my actions and did the work.

Change your beliefs as often as you’d like but don’t go around spouting off about it. Do the work!

I found Salman Rushdie’s article “imagine no heaven” to be very inspiring when I was trying to deprogram. Check it out.

Take ownership of your life. Your father may have indoctrinated you, but you're 21. If things suck, it's because you're letting them continue to suck. Adapt and don't bitch about getting laid while there are people who are far worse off and still keep faith.

For the record, I don't believe in any god and believe that put a human personification to a divine deity as sensical as saying that an earthquake is out to get you.
