I still don't get why child support isn't normalized, with the exception of special needs children every child costs about the same. Child support is to help support the child's basic needs, not whatever lifestyle the child (or mother) happens to be used to.

Because the state makes money on collecting child support. The states have been incentivised by the feds to get as much as possible, so they do. We are forced to be poor so politicians can get rich- Oops! Heh, I mean, "best interests" of the child. Yeah, that's the ticket.

$55,000 per month. That's consistent with how the laws work in Michigan. Child support is often based on the man's income, or a combination of the man's and woman's income. It's not based often on how much is needed to raise a child.
I'm not saying I like it, I'm just confirming that this would be legal in Michigan.

The only reason the money goes to the mother is because you can't just give child support money to the child. The money has to be spent by the guardian to pay for things the child needs.

There are ways to mitigate this. Require that all the money goes into a bank account that's separate from the mother's account. Require that the mother's only access to the account is through a check-card and give the father the ability to see that account - and if he sees the mother spending the money on herself, give the court the authority to require that the mother repay that money.
Obviously, it wont stop every abuse, but it would be a good start.

The best way to mitigate it is to eliminate it. It's not like dad doesn't have exactly the same bills mom does. The NCP has to pay for rent, food, clothing, utilities, insurance, etc. just like the CP does.

I 100% agree with this, and I would add that the contribution for child support should be from both parents, and both parents would have access to the money and ability to audit the transactions.
