Have you ever been to the zoo?

You know the monkey cages? Sometimes they'll throw shit at each other, or masturbate furiously, or scream at anything in earshot just to get attention? And they seem pissed off but also they seem to be enjoying their own antics?

SRS is basically that.

But less cute and cuddly. And with more feces-throwing.

SRS isn't a protest/activist sub, it's more like a post-protest party where everyone makes fun of the bystanders who "didn't get the point." It's the lunch table cracking oblique jokes to terrify outsiders and solidify their friendship. It's a safe space for feminists to vent without having to explain why they believe what they do. (Example: people who defend submitted "shit" are labeled "concern trolls" and banned, because it's hard to have a party when someone is questioning your every move.)

Attitude aside, the comments usually make fun of men, which is probably the most confusing part to outsiders. The official reasoning is to call this "turning the tables." It's the "harmless joke" concept taken to its extreme: why are your harmless jokes about minorities funny, but my harmless jokes about you aren't? They don't actually hate men, but they pretend to to prove a point. Enforcing the circlejerk keeps the message on point; if no one is allowed to actually hate on men, it's all irony, and you don't get some random dude changing the message.

Belief-wise, I think MensRights and SRS have a rivalry going for three main reasons:

MensRights thinks equality means helping everyone equally, because delineating levels of "privilege" only creates new stereotypes that will be just as hard to break.
SRS thinks equality means continuing to turn the conversation to the traditionally underprivileged, because despite their visibility as "those poor people who need to be helped", the scales are still tipped against them, and fighting for the traditionally privileged would only damage that hard-won visibility.
MensRights wishes SRS would join a real conversation, but SRS is eating Fritos and watching a documentary on buffalo.

I think a healthy portion of both subs would agree that everyone deserves sympathy and assistance, regardless of what group they're from. It's just that we can't agree on how to effect that change.

They aren't anything important really, a combination of brainwashed of kids that will eventually be embarrassed by their younger selves and non gender conforming people that were bullied in rl, that now want to bully others.

For many, the mrm has become a proxy for the people that taunted them in school, manboobz is a classic example of this, imo.

Imagine a family of three brothers and one sister. The first brother is a real asshole: he runs his mouth, says hurtful things, is indifferent to other people's problems, and is just an ignorant, arrogant piece of shit. The second and third brothers are pretty okay: they slip up occasionally, but try to be considerate, thoughtful, good people overall. The sister finally gets fed up with all of brother 1's dickbaggery, so she decides to get revenge by walking into brother 1's bedroom, trashing it, and breaking all of brother 1's stuff. The problem is, all the brothers live in the same room, and she can't tell what stuff belongs to who. Ultimately, the sister just says "fuck it" and breaks everything, regardless of who it belongs to or who did what. Brothers 2 and 3 return to their room, see all of their shit broken. They immediately confront their sister asking what they did wrong. "Your beardtears please brd :D :D :D," she responds.

They're people who try to find things to be upset about, they accept everyone as long as you're not a white, heterosexual, (cis) male, and they care to act like children who don't have the brain capacity to have an intelligent and intellectual conversation. And they will ban you if they disagree with you at all. This is how I got banned from there. That was the only time I ever posted there. They're batshit crazy.
