Hey /r/MensRights. I wrote a post on /r/MensRightsMeta and spoke with the moderators about an idea I had to reduce the views that we give to clickbait articles. I was asked to post in the main sub for users to discuss.

Here's the idea: basically, a bot would keep an eye on /r/MensRights submissions and if it links to a site that's known for clickbaiting via slander or other unethical methods of generating views (it would keep a blacklist that would be updated in the FAQ) or the mods give it a clickbait flair (or manually trigger the bot in some other way), it would go through the following procedure:

  1. Remove the post from Reddit

  2. Take an image snapshot of the page

  3. Submit it to minus.com (imgur compresses images, which isn't good for text)

  4. Resubmit the article as a link to the image

  5. [Edited to add this step: PM the user the link to the new submission and tell them what happened (thanks to /u/IMULTRAHARDCORE for reminding me of this important step)]

  6. Comment with the URL to the article in the submission, if people really want to visit the URL [edited to add: and credit the original submitter in this comment too)

This way, if people click links to clickbait, it would just link to an image and will refuse to give views to that site, at least from /r/MensRights.
