The Hofstra scenario is the stuff of nightmares, at least mine. The entire machinery of legal justice arrayed against you, the police, DA, university, students, and media all ready to pounce at a false accusation.

Your use of "deus ex machina" to describe their salvation is so poetically and literally accurate that it made me laugh out loud. Where would these men be if not for cell phone video? Who knows when the security camera footage would have come out and whether that footage alone would have been enough to break the inertia of the case?

I've seen innumerable articles and heard innumerable acquaintances defend the liar and claim that she was avoiding "slut shaming" or some similar garbage. I think these sorts of mental contortions are what enables things like this to continue.
