Tell me, how do you feel now about all the Disney movies you watched as a kid?

I didn't really watch the typical disney movies as a kid. I watched a lot of Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Wizard of Oz, Tom Thumb, The Sound of Music, and Shirley Temple movies.

None of these focused on love- they were all about fun and singing songs. In the ones that did have love stories, it was not the central theme.

I don't think it's healthy to teach children, especially girls, to focus so much on love and romance. They should just enjoy being kids.

I am a really big Disney fan. I love their movies and I think they are wonderful silly fun entertainment.

BUT- that's where it stops, entertainment. I have never and would never model my life after a CARTOON, and frankly I don't understand people who took Disney seriously. You really thought you could sit and wait for your (nameless, in many cases) knight to come fall in love with you at first sight? And for guys, you wanted to be that knight?! I question their critical thinking skills.

I can't wait to share my favorite Disney movies with my future children (I saw the lion king 5 times when it came out!) but it will be with the full knowledge that movies and celebrities and media in general is not a role model or example for how to live your life. Role models are people you know in real life only.

I've never taken movies to be any sort of prescription for life. Girls who expect to be princesses when they grow up, and to have some handsome wealthy man come save them from the rigors of life need a swift kick in the arse-- preferably delivered by their parents.

I was more about the Ninja Turtles, Ghostbusters and Power Rangers >.>

I don't think there were all of these Princess movies when I was a kid. I'm pretty old, though.

Sound of Music wasn't too bad; the gold-digger man-eater lost out when Maria became more feminine.

i dont remember watching any disney movies but fantasia, lady and the tramp and 101 dalmations. the only "kid's" movie i REALLY remember watching as a kid was "the point" narrated by ringo starr and score dby harry nilsson but for some reason no one of my generation remembers it but me

While I watched a lot of Disney movies and loved them all, very few can stand to meet my standards of entertainment now. Too many tropes and stereotypes. I think Mulan is the only Disney princess movie I will still watch and enjoy.

Beauty and the Beast?

If that was real life Gaston would have given Belle massive gina tingles (they overdid his boorishness so the viewer wouldn't like him but no one that alpha is that insecure in real life).

She picks the beast and then he turns into a prince in the end? Say what?

This plays on female psychology in such a huge way. Women want a beast to tame.

I'm a dude, but I see an awful lot of disposable man, and chivalry that unfairly treats/expects things of men.
