I have a girl cooking me dinner at her place tonight. It's our first date. It was a tinder matchup, and later on I found her on facebook (tons of mutual friends) and it turns out she dated one of my frat bros for a few months, half a year ago. I do not have a problem with this. I don't know if this girl is looking for anything serious or not. I won't be right away, but we'll see. Unless there's some dark reason why they broke up and he's REALLY not okay with it, because bros before hoes. So when the question comes up tonight at dinner - she knows i'm in a frat but not which one - how do I respond to her statement of: "Oh, my ex-boyfriend is also in xxxxxx fraternity" I don't think she'll actually have a problem with it either unless there's something serious that happened in their failed relationship, but how can I navigate around this mess? I'm a senior in college, she's a sophomore. Greek life status is a huge part of SMV here. It's really about what other people think about us dating after they had been dating, thus she could really have a problem with it. This will really be a turning point in the dinner. If I can get around this safely, it's all smooth sailing. If I don't assuage her doubts/weirdness about it, I'm fucked. I was prepared to tell her the story of how I was the other guy a couple years ago - my freshman year I was dating an opera singer but it wasn't really working out so I broke up with her. Six months later she starts dating one of my frat bros and they were happily together for 2 years. I had no anger/weirdness about it and was happy that they got together - and so was he. I remember him specifically thanking me - that had I not broke up with her, they would have never gotten together. Besides all of that, I'm really not sure how to handle this situation. Ideas?
