PUA vs TRP game. Conflicting theories and clash of ideas. Do I use both?

PUA and TRP game aren't necessarily conflicting -- the main difference is that PUA is more formalized into specific techniques and routines that are followed explicitly, while TRP is more about internalizing a certain type of mental state that leads to success with women.

Your example about smiling is kind of missing the point. A smile can mean many things and can be beta or alpha depending on the context and type of smile. The idea that PUA says to always smile while TRP says never smile is ridiculous.

It seems like you are new to the game and may be prone to over thinking. Keep reading from a variety of sources, but you also need to get out in the field and interact with women as much as possible. This is where knowledge combines with experience and is forged into skill.

PUA is great if you have very little experience approaching women in public settings and want some ideas for things to say. It gives you a number of clear steps you can follow to get into a conversation to set up a date. TRP is better for a high level understanding of the psychology and biology that drives romantic interactions. A solid grasp of TRP will give you insight to make the right move in any other vast number of situations that will spontaneously arise while interacting with women.

One instance, is that it says to smile as you enter a room.

I don't think you'll find them contradictory, just nuanced. Smiling in an approach environment is meant to be disarming; if you aren't focused on the expression your face is giving out, and most guys aren't, a neutral or expressionless face is far more likely to be met with resistance. So the 'smile' that gets hammered in PUA is because its easy to focus on and is a severe improvement over no attention paid to your facial features at all.

I think it'd be better to consider the difference like this: PUA: Smile when approaching. TRP: Show amused mastery

The PUA community has evolved drastically since when The Game was published. You won't really learn very well from the book, but it is an interesting read for those of us who are interested in how the community got established and what people like Tyler from RSD were like early in their PUA careers.

That said, I don't know where you got the idea that smiling is inherently bad. A person who looks positive and happy will tend to do better socially than the guys who exhibit bitter and angry body language. Unhappy body language is an indication that the man either isn't accepted by society or is otherwise unhealthy in some way; neither are attractive traits

There is no one true way. PUA's disagree with each other (and sometimes themselves) and there is no one single approved and flawless TRP game. The smiling thing is a perfect example. You have to find what works for you, mix and match.

The smiling thing wasn't described very well when they talk about it.

It's not a big goofy smile like you can't believe they let you in, instead it's a cocky smirk because you know that this is your kingdom.

A good example is Rick Perrys mugshot; now that is a cocky bastard.

After reading about both theories for a while, I could make a very precise argument on them:

PUA techniques will help you spin a railgun at your targets. Faster spinning, more bullets per second, aiming is only secondary. As a rule of thumb, the more you try to hit, the more you actually do. It does little to refine your aiming.

TRP helps you trade that railgun for a scoped single-fire M4. All intrincacies which will help that gun be as accurate as possible, such as including wind and distance reading, bullet trajectory, lasers and shit, it will give you. All your shots are going to be way more calculated, and more precise, but it will also teach you to preserve your ammunition.

Well it's not for "no reason". Being supplicating is beta. Being a cheerful, positive leader is alpha in many social situations (especially the kind most of us are in for work or play). It should be a confident / knowing smile, not a "please like me, I need friends" smile.

People will probably be less friendly with you if you're never smiling when you meet them: if that's what you need/want, that's fine. Otherwise...
