Amusing story. In the 1960s my Dad owned a Lotus Elan (S2 if i remember). Eventually, decided to sell it, so returned it to the dealer for them to sell, was then abroad for 6 weeks. Got back, dropped in to the dealer, they said that they had not sold it. But, he saw the log book (UK, paper ownership document of the time) and it had a new name on it. Gave them hell, they came clean ....

... they had sold it to a woman, and had delivered it to her house, and driven it into the garage for her. Next day, she gets in, starts it up, put it in reverse, presses the accelerator., releases clutch. Clearly had no idea how powerful it was, shot out of the garage so fast that she scared herself shitless. At least she had the sense to return it back to the dealer.

Dad got the money, pointed out they had sold it, not his problem if they bought it back again.
