He is simply not interested in starting a committed relationship with you, he is trying to maintain you as a trade down option in case he cannot do better.

All the other reasons given are useless chatter or noise.

Move on. Find the right person t have a relationship with.

Even if you take him back after some time chances are he will no longer respect you because taking back someone who has already moved on gives you an aura of desperation. He would treat you worse because he would know from experience he can get away with it.

Also if he really felt that you are the one he wants to spend his life with, he would have felt excited that you'll be his only partner in the future, not scared or regtetting.

Having your heart broken sucks, but don't put yourself in denial. Accept that it's over, take a couple of days off work if you need, cry in your friends arms, blast emo music, whatever you need to get it out of your system. It sucks but you will get through this and move on.

He wants to sleep around for a couple years and then get back to you whenever’s convenient for his timeline.... Most likely you’ll both be different people by then, and whats to stop him from falling in love with someone else? Your loyalty and flexibility is very sweet, but to a man it would read as someone who didn’t respect themselves. Your n count isnt your worth... you sound like a loving supportive person. Save that energy for someone who the timing is right for. trust me .... long distance is almost impossible. It’s painful but will help both of you grow to let go of one another

You can tell yourself you’re gonna take him back in 2 years, but you should treat this as a real break up. Block his number for at least 3-6 mo. Date other guys who actually want you, and before you know it Prince Charming will have turned back into a frog.

You won’t miss him. And you shouldn’t. He’s putting your entire future together on the line for some mediocre pussy. Either he’s smug as hell thinking you won’t find someone better than him, or he’s a total dumbass, take your pick. A good guy doesn’t gamble with something that valuable to him.

I do understand that he wants experience and doesn't want to regret becoming exclusive further down the line which would sour your relationship. It's an admirable thing to realize this and work to prevent it ahead of time, defusing the issue before it even starts.

But don't wait for him. If it's meant to be it will come back and happen. In the meantime keep your eyes open.

I have one genuine question : in these two years he will increase his n count to maybe 18(less possibility). From 5 to 18 that's like 13 jumps.

What will happen to your n count? It will increase by atleast 13(you are already better than your bf) or more depends on you. He will again tell you your n count is higher and some other reasons.

He can't catch up. Unless he is Barney Stinson. He will always be behind you
