I have worked in books for years and currently keep up with the trends in books and what sells and these billionaire books (or the many, many imitators) are all over the place.

It has to do with the fact that physical, printed books are on the wane and ebooks are growing in popularity rapidly. It makes it easier to hide that you're reading trash.

Not fanfiction per se, just the level of writing. Because I read a few pages of Shades of Gray and it read like some story a 14 year old was submitting to Literotica or some thing.

Indeed. This also can be expanded to the rest of the world: ease of voicing opinions opened a flood gate of asininity of epic proportions that in pre-internet days was limited to kitchens and water cooler debates. Nowadays, every schmuck with a computer and an internet connection is a subject-matter expert in everything that could be "subjectified", no matter how little skill and knowledge they posses in general. Literature isn't exempt.

No one likes bots, but this post has zero content and no substance. At the minimum, OP could have at least posted the book's title and a summary sentence.

Also, while not the worst, Amazon is famous for invasive Internet tracking practices. A text post would've been sufficient.
