LOL. Oh yeah. I can relate to basically all of that only I filed the divorce after discovering her affairs that actually began before we got married. Fake domestic violence charges, her refusing to let me see my own son while she is at work because she will get less of my money, everything. Legally stealing most of my property. Destroying my credit and my identity to the point I had to get a new social security number (and then having the female detective spend an hour accusing me of being a physically abusive rapist [!!!] after speaking to me for two minutes simply because I was reporting the ex-wife stealing my identity again) Marriage is a total sham and no man should ever get married. Ever. Have a commitment ceremony or something and live together if it's convenient enough but do not get married.

Got in a little tiff with the other side this week about exactly this. Told what happened to me, and they flat out said I was embellishing, lying, and that its only one state that does it. All my comments are -5 so they can feel justified. I don't give a shit about karma, but men need to know that getting married today is not something they want to do. Say that outside the comforts of pro male areas and you will get an ear full of nonsense. There is no benefit whatsoever to men by getting married, its all risk and expense.

I've tried having a 'discussion' with people about this and they are ridiculously ill informed. For RL people that I work with or friends they have been shocked at what has happened. Constantly trying to give me advice based on their stupid preconceived notions. "Why don't you just take her to court and get full custody?" Oh duh why didn't I think of that?

And the social consequences for the ex wife... Only has one friend left and she's a toxic slut just like the ex, father disowns her on his deathbed, etc. Somehow in her mind she's just being a strong independent woman and every consequence is my fault. She's even mad at me for divorcing her. Like she was just entitled to lie to me and cheat for our entire 'marriage'. Stealing most of my property was her getting "what she deserved."

And fast forward a year the dummy is lonely and wants to get back together. Lol. Too late you fed me the pill and I know what you want now. I'll take what I want using the knowledge I've gained.

Sounds like my first ex. Her mother used to hate me, we get along fine now. Mostly because she sees what I have built since her daughter took off 14 years ago, and what she has done with her 'new man' in that same time. I look like a millionaire with a wonderful life compared to the new son in law.

Waiting for the second one (I chose better but she's still female) to have her Willie Coyote moment. I ended it due to her cheating with a loser when she was 30, and its been a year now. She's feeling the effects of her poor choices now, having to live with her parents because she can't live on her own. She wanted me to support the both of them but I couldn't fuck her anymore. I've never been that much of a chump beta.

Both of them claim its my fault that they made poor choices. I was pretty damn alpha with the first one, she wanted to be on control and I wouldn't be controlled. I thought I was doing it wrong so I tried to be more beta with the second, and it only took a six month illness to make her think the grass was greener. It isn't. I'm better, healthier than I have been in twenty years, and I'm doing whatever I want to do. I'm good without a girlfriend.

[–]Liftitrealgood-1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So let me guess this- you're a two time divorcé, your second wife cheated on you, and you still think you're alpha? I wouldn't say you're

good without a girlfriend.

as much as i'd say you're a pretty fuckin uselesss boyfriend.

Marriage to women and white knights is like reading iTunes, Steam or any popular digital Terms of Service agreement: TL;DR.

Except in this case, instead of there being a laundry list to read from, there is no list. There is only what your family, friends and society has been force fed, alongside a "healthy" liberalization of sex and erosion of the nuclear family.

Not just women, (though yes AWALT) but EVERYONE will shit test you should you avoid marriage. The only choice is to quietly, but firmly, opt out.

[–]2 Senior Endorsed Contributorvengefully_yours4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Damn straight. Had one tool in another subreddit tell me I will have a bunch of divorces and failed relationships with my attitude. Not quite accurate. I have my attitude due to those things, I see reality for what it is. I will gladly take death by self inflicted gunshot before I will ever marry again. I'm not starting over from near nothing any more.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 11 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Have a commitment ceremony or something and live together if it's convenient > enough but do not get married.

Not in Australia, it means the same thing.

[–]rpkarma5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Heck, as far as the law is written here just living with her for 6 months can be enough.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

6 momths? Holy fuck, it was 2 years last time. Next if you make out with a female at a party she'll have half your stuff thanks.

[–]rpkarma1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Shit I was wrong it's two years for the most part, but there are exceptions. Have a kid? De facto. Other circumstances? De facto. I seem to remember someone in QLD agitating to get it changed to 6 months, I'll see if I can find it.

Edit: we are both right. Turns out that it's whatever the judge decides and 6 months is the minimum for the most part in most states :/

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Turns out that it's whatever the judge decides

Yeah pretty much summarises family law.

[–]TRP Vanguard: "Dark Triad Expert"IllimitableMan0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

Family law as it stands is based entirely off statute rather than common law. Wanna know why? Because common law is bound by equitable maxims - meaning fair treatment under the law. No-fault divorce would be illegal under common law (breaching a contract without reasonable grounds) so they pass statute to get rid of the equity and make an inequitable contract breachable at any time legally valid.

From a legal standpoint marriage contracts are abhorrently unique. A contract that can breached without penalty to the breacher or recompense to the breachee at any time? That's absurd. Even more absurd: with marriage the breachee (a man being divorced by a woman) has to pay the person breaching the contract! It's fucking nuts. In every other contract in existence the person in breach is the person at fault, marriage contracts are the only contracts I know of where there is "no fault." What fucking contract is worth the paper its written on when it can be breached without legal penalty at any time? IT'S LEGALLY ABSURD.

Common law fills in where there is no statute, but family law statute lacks all of the equity of common law.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, no fault divorce sounds great at first, afterall who likes fault?

Then you read the fineprint and realize it in effect just means the man is just assumed to be at fault. Or at least thats how he'll be treated.

[–]Planner_Hammish0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Canada too. It varies by province, but 6mo to 2yr of "adult interdependent relationship" grants most of the rights and responsibilities of marriage, especially if children are involved and you have filed joint income taxes.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that women get all the rights and men get all the responsabilities...

[–]user_none0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You win the prize for a correct guess! What's that prize, you may ask? Why, a lifetime of paying out the nose for shit that's insane, because, well, you're a man.

[–]user_none1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Your story is eerily similar to mine, though I had her family on my side and she still went full psycho.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Maybe we accidentally married the same girl. I wouldn't put it past her. I'm very confident that I can avoid that situation again, now that I'm not an idiot.

To think. I started reading this place from a link at the rational male. I love that guy. That and people freaking out that I even mentioned this place. Didn't even know what it was and was getting harassed anyway.

[–][deleted] 14 points15 points16 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The marriage contract today is bat shit crazy.

The problem is it makes divorce such an attractive option for women that they would consider it even if their was no other issues with the marriage. In other words, mariages that would have been happy, life long partnerships pre-1960 end in divorce because woman are basically being bribed to cash out. Why would the government do this? Well divorce is highly, highly profitable for the powerful institutions in society, unlocking all this wealth that would otherwise be passed down to the kids tax free. And what is the first thing a newly divorced woman does? Blow half the settlement on a new car of course, before going shopping with her friends.

[–]erwgv3g34[S] 13 points14 points15 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You are correct about the incentives women face, but wrong about the reason why the government does this. The real reason is vote-buying. Once female suffrage occurred, it was only a matter of time until fierce political competition for the female vote led to today.

It's easy to blame the 19th amendment, but it was inevitable. Democracies inherently seek to expand their franchises and elect their own populace. It is a horrible mistake; a perversion of the natural, patriarchal order which a monarchy brings to civilization.

What are the countries that don't have alimony laws?

[–]awesomesalsa0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

um... I think you've got that backwards, champ

[–]johnyann7 points8 points9 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's stuff like this where as someone who identifies as politically conservative, I just really don't care about gay marriage. It can be passed via constitutional amendment and given a national holiday for all I care.

If you idiots really want to get married, fucking go ahead. I'm not gonna stop you. Maybe you can save whatever sanctity of marriage still exists while straight women have raped the institution for all it's worth.

[–]TheRabid3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Shouldn't we call this something else besides marriage? I think that the term "WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING?!?" would be a good name change.

[–]TRP Vanguardnicethingyoucanthave2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

That article conflates marriage with child support. If you have no kids, divorce wont be as bad as they say. As an average guy you're not likely to be paying alimony.

I point this out not to suggest that marriage is okay. In fact, I would recommended that you avoid living together permanently and maybe even avoid ltrs.

No, I'm pointing this out to remind you that having kids is the real resource sink here. If you know for sure that you really, seriously want then, then good luck with all that. But if not, always remember that a custody fight and child support is considerably worse than a childless divorce.

[–]1AreYouAware_1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

True, but be aware that if she gets knocked up during the separation but before the divorce is finalized there is a non-zero chance that the judge will put you on the hook for the child support. She has no reason not to take this tack unless she just flat out doesn't want a child.

[–]1Padre551 point2 points3 points 11 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Which makes marriage..worth..what?

I have to chuckle a bit at gay marriage..yep..step right up..now don't be shy..only instead of genetic constructs they deal in completely non genetic reality.

What happens when Barb and Sarah "divorce" and there are children adopted or other children are involved or Steve and Mike go through the same process?

Hetero's are abandoning marriage, so the market being what it is, have to find new suckers..err.."loving couples" (generally high earners) to fill the void

Talk of rattle your chains to boast of your freedom..lol!

[–]rigit235 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Great article and a great read. I would even say this is potential side bar material.

[–]General_Fear1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And with all the evidence, fact etc etc . . . Men continue to get married.

[–]2comment0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Can I just call it Mistake 1.f001?

[–]LeeryLucifer-2 points-1 points0 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You 'Muricans have yourself to blame. Decades of a stupid system where you let 50 % of the population sit on their asses at home, mayybe doing to the dishes and making dinner, gives such results. Here in Norway, when you divorce, you only get to take out of the marriage what you brought into the marriage. Doesn't matter who earned what. In addition, the wealth created while married are divdided in 2 (50 % each) and there are NO alimony after that. There is obligatory child support, if one of the parents gets full custody, but I think that's fine.
