Population decline? Whites aren't breeding much, but the hispanic population in the US is and will continue to experience explosive growth, and not only due to immigration. The immigrants outbreed other races. Take a look.

Do you realize you are advocating unilateral population reduction? No other population than the West is gonna stop having children, so the world is just going to get overpopulated by other people. And those other people are not even going to stay in their own countries; Western elites are bending over backwards to bring in ever more immigrants, so it's not like the West can even enjoy the benefits of a low population density.

Well, you are correct in that respect. Third world countries are still going to reproduce like crazy. I'd prefer to be limiting the number that come into my country, however.

Having the western world do the same thing, however, is not going to get me any closer to a lower population though. I would like to see a population reduction in the West, and everywhere else.

You make it sound like its a race... where we have to increase our population more than the third world does. I don't really care too much about ending up with a dominant race. I care more about humanity's long term prospects, and I'm not so confident in the prospects if we keep doubling the population every 40 years.

Plenty of space on this rock. If you had a population density of the city of Houston Tx. You could fit the world population in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas and Louisiana.

Well, if you wanted to, I'm sure you could build the entire world up with skyscrapers and fit them in there.

The thing is, that is not a very comfortable life.

We also have the issue of perpetually draining the world's resources, and generating more waste than we know what to do with. I think we'd be better off with 1/100th the number of people.

Dude, get a clue. The whole environment issue is less of a problem than it is purported to be. Where's your global warming? Where is your peak oil? All of these problems are solvable. However, a dark ages could last for centuries and forests will be decimated by subsistence farmers with no choice.

Well if you wanted to actively limit population, you might need to do some rather shady things. However, as the topic takes issue with, people can limit the population voluntarily. I think this should be encouraged. There is no reason to encourage population growth. It doesn't really help in any way.

You are partially right, but pragmatically speaking, you are wrong. You can't (easily) change human behavior. People are going to be wasteful and selfish. The only way people will properly manage resources is if they have to do it in order to survive.

... and that is what we are eventually headed for... and sure, the world can support quite a lot of people, but you will not be nearly as comfortable living in those conditions.

You can either have a low population and indulge yourself, or have a high population and live with only the bare necessities..

Hmm. Evolution selected for religious people because their societies were more likely to survive? Interesting. I must admit I've always thought of it backwards from that - that religion was created in order to keep society functioning and reproducing. It would be interesting if religion is actually in our genes, and that we evolved it as a survival mechanism.

In terms of guiding society, you're thinking of "organized" religion, which is one of the original forms of government; it used to be a nation was literally defined by which god(s) the people worshipped.
