This is why I lie and say that I used to be engaged.

The older you get, the easier it is to pull this off.

I might try this when pulling tail. I wonder if there's a proper response when they ask why I didn't get married that doesn't look like my fault.

"She cheated."
"...well why did she cheat?"

Or if I left, why did I leave?
"Are you afraid of commitment?"

I think maybe a simple "She died" might work. A little dark but I remember a Seinfeld episode where George's story played the best with a group of women Jerry was surveying.

Best answer: 'It's complicated'. Hamster overdrive activated.

Moved away for work/uni/etc, couldn't maintain the relationship. Problems with the family. Or just a plain "it's very painful to talk about", although that may be a bit obvious.

I think the long distance excuse coupled with "the sex got boring" (as suggested by u/enticingasthatmaybe) might be the best. I'll have to experiment.

when they ask why I didn't get married that doesn't look like my fault

You're making the mistake of thinking you have to respond to that question with a direct answer.

You don't. It's a shit test - DO NOT ANSWER DIRECTLY. You have to let your mind spend daily time in a place of absurdity. When you know you don't have to answer questions with a real answer it becomes easy to just roll of some absurd bullshit that disarms her attempt to swipe your frame.

"It didn't work out" / "It got complicated" - best answer

"I needed some time off to focus on my trapeze career."

"I caught her in bed with a three cowboys, two pirates, a fog machine and an ocelot. I don't know about you, but I draw the line at fog machines in bed."

"The sex got boring"

Younger women were more likely to judge their partner on how many relationships they'd had.

"Older women have had more relationship experience, on average, and therefore will probably be more confident in their decisions," says Anderson.

Hamsterese for:

Post-wall women are more desperate.

Perhaps some fetish where she thinks she will be "the one" who conquers and domesticates the bad boy, so he won't wander this time.

I have no idea if this article is credible or not since it did not provide its source. However,

On the flipside, men who had five relationships or more were deemed unattractive

This suggests that larger number of sexual partners does not equal a higher SMV for men.

[–]Patriarchal_Bondage 5 points6 points7 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Don't conflate the two terms. In the quote you cited it said "relationships", but then you make a conclusion on "sexual partners".

[–]luxo42 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

True, the article wasn't clear if it was referring to short term or long term sexual relationships.

Here's an actual scientific article, not a snippet from Marie Claire, that suggests that women find promiscuity in men to be undesirable even in short term relationships, even more so than men find promiscuous women to be unattractive.

To quote the article,

The same sample of 42 men and 44 women evaluated short-term mates using a rating scale from -3 (extremely undesirable) to 3 (extremely desirable). Whereas men found this attribute to be close to neutral (-0.41), women rated promiscuity to be moderately undesirable (-2.0) in a short term partner.

It's on page 222 second paragraph if you want to check for yourself.

Self reported data is a problem with any study that asks questions. Especially coming from women.

Truly promiscuous men, ones that have large numbers of unique partners understand the snowball effect that occurs when women have to have you because they know other women have.

[–]luxo42 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't particularly like self-reported studies either.

Truly promiscuous men, ones that have large numbers of unique partners understand the snowball effect that occurs when women have to have you because they know other women have.

Hey if that's you, then I'm glad its working out for you!
